El Parador de Sos del Rey Católico reabre renovado y accesible
Paradores renews the experience in one of the most unique medieval sites in Aragon
The reopening of the Parador de Sos del Rey Católico marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of the most distinctive hotel establishments in the north of Aragon, welcoming visitors once more after renovation works launched in January and designed to update its facilities, enhance comfort, and more powerfully showcase the appeal of a medieval town surrounded by nature. Located within the walled enclosure of Sos del Rey Católico, a medieval town that saw the birth of Ferdinand II of Aragon, in a manor house built in 1908, this Parador has rediscovered its reputation as a starting point from which to discover history, landscape, and gastronomy in the Cinco Villas area. Beyond architectural works, the value of this reopening lies in the experience that the Parador once again offers within a historic ensemble of great character. Its large windows, exceptional views of the mountains surrounding the town, and its integration into Sos del Rey Católico’s monumental profile turn the stay into a leisurely immersion amid a destination where time seems to move at a different pace. The building, situated next to the city walls and adapted to the structure of the town, has preserved its own unique identity, reinforcing the destination’s character. The renovation works, supported by an investment of 2.5 million euros, have made it possible to renew essential elements of the establishment. Most notably, the in-room bathrooms have been modernized, aimed at complying with current regulations and improving accessibility, with many bathtubs replaced by shower trays. On top of all this, the exterior carpentry has also been partially renovated to optimize energy efficiency, alongside works on the kitchen and laundry air conditioning, and an interior-design project which sought to update common areas and rooms without losing the historic essence of the Parador. All these improvements also form part of a broader process of updating the establishment, which by 2025 had already incorporated a new chiller, adapted its cold storage rooms to regulations, and implemented a Building Management System (BMS). The result is a hotel with enhanced functionality and comfort, while preserving its heritage value. The 66-room hotel, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, presents the Las Cinco Villas restaurant, where Aragonese cuisine finds its faithful expression in local products, seasonal vegetables, and specialties such as Aragonese roast lamb, borage in saffron sauce, thistles with almonds and ham, and ajoarriero-style cod.

The Parador’s reopening brings an attractive destination back into the spotlight for all those seeking nature and hiking without sacrificing heritage. Sos del Rey Católico invites you to wander through its cobbled streets, centuries-old walls, Gothic and Renaissance windows, and landmarks such as the Palace of Sada, the San Esteban Church, the medieval market hall, the Santa Lucía hermitage, and the Jewish quarter.
