The Region of Murcia offers wellness tourism at spa resorts, thalassotherapy centres and spas

Thermal waters and sensory experiences enhance the Mediterranean appeal

In the Region of Murcia, experiences designed to nourish the body, mind and senses blend with the gorgeous landscapes of the Costa Cálida, between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, for a feel-good wellness getaway. The wide range of health resorts, spas, thalassotherapy centres and therapeutic mud treatments invites you to unwind, refresh and enjoy a leisurely destination with mild temperatures and 300 days of sunshine a year. The wellness programme is not just a complement to the experience but a way to explore the region or: with time to immerse yourself in the water, the silence and the calm that transforms every trip into a restorative experience. Costa Cálida offers the perfect setting in which to leave behind the daily noise and reconnect with body and mind through natural resources, specialized facilities and treatments specifically designed to restore balance.

The Region of Murcia, a premier wellness destination, boasts three spa resorts and four thalassotherapy centres

The destination combines health, beauty, nature, sports, culture and gastronomy all in a single area. This intersection of motivations enables the creation of flexible stays, from brief breaks focused on rest and recovery to more comprehensive getaways centred around personal care. Added to this is the allure of its two seas, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, which lend the experience an identity that is inextricably linked to      water. The spa resorts of Archena and Leana in Fortuna and Bahía de los Delfines in Mazarrón form an essential component of this offering. Envisioned as spaces for health and relaxation, they provide an ideal setting in which to renew and refresh with thermal waters, swimming pools, specialized facilities, sports areas and medical services. The getaway is imbued with an immersive character, where rest blends with personalized attention and the pleasure of being pampered unhurriedly.

Thalassotherapy expands the wellness map thanks to the properties of the marine environment. The hotels Thalasia, Lodomar, Entremares and Aguas Salinas offer seawater-based treatments with a strong connection to the coastal landscape. At the Lodomar Spa & Talasoterapia centre, the experience includes an indoor pool heated to 35 degrees Celsius with water extracted directly from the Mar Menor salt flats which, combined with the area's muds, serve as the basis for a plethora of body treatments. And it is the Mar Menor that provides one of the most distinctive features of this offering: its muds. At the northern end of the lagoon, the climatic conditions, high number of sunny hours and elevated salinity have promoted, over several centuries, the accumulation of sediments used for therapeutic purposes. A study conducted by the University of Murcia in 1995 identified significant levels of minerals and salts in these sediments. Its use is linked in particular to treatments for the skin and certain joint conditions. One of the most unique areas showcasing this tradition is the surroundings of the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales (salt flats and sand dunes) of San Pedro del Pinatar, which is home to what Region of Murcia Tourism presents as the largest open-air mud therapy area in Europe. Here, contact with the landscape enhances the sensory dimension of this experience among salt flats, water and light. This offer is rounded out by numerous spas, including Grand Hyatt La Manga Club & Resort, Ona Mar Menor Golf Resort & Spa, DoubleTree by Hilton La Torre Golf, Puerto Juan Montiel Spa & Base Náutica and Parador de Lorca.

The Nature for All Five Senses ensemble expands the possibilities available with activities such as yoga in natural settings, forest and sound baths, aquatic massages, mindful snorkelling, therapeutic hiking or stand-up paddle boarding. Costa Cálida Cares represents another facet of this offering by bringing together spas, thalassotherapy centres and service companies related to health tourism in addition to facilitating the organization of stays focused on well-being, prevention and medical treatments.
