Six motorcycle routes carve out a journey through Burgos’s most breathtaking landscapes

Burgos offers a way of travelling by motorcycle that turns the road into an immersive experience, with six routes linking canyons, juniper forests, glacial lagoons, monasteries, Jacobean towns, medieval villages and wineries. This journey through a province of contrasts reveals a unique landscape at every bend and invites visitors at every stop to leisurely savor the warmth, heritage and flavors that accompany travelers on two wheels. The Journey to the Heart of the Sierra route spans 195 kilometers, delving into one of the province’s most intense natural enclaves. From the San Clemente Caves to Ibeas de Juarros, the route passes through the Arlanza-La Yecla Juniper Natural Park, continues to Santo Domingo de Silos and captivates visitors with Sad Hill Cemetery, a restored cinematic landmark that has become a place of pilgrimage for film enthusiasts. The climb to the Neila Glacial Lagoons Natural Park brings higher altitudes, crisp mountain air and a rugged alpine atmosphere that extends along the Arlanzón and Úzquiza reservoirs.
The journey takes on a new character between Atapuerca and Valpuesta. Stretching 263 kilometers, the From the Origin of Man to the Origin of Castilian route connects archaeological sites, salt pans, waterfalls and monasteries to shape a journey steeped in deep history. Atapuerca leads to the origins of humanity in Europe; Poza de la Sal reflects the character of its ancient salt mines; Tobera introduces the soothing sound of water; and Oña, Frías and Valpuesta complete an itinerary where history resonates through stone, documents and evocative landscapes. In Las Merindades, the From the Footprints of Castile to the Clamor of the Ebro route covers 197 kilometers from Taranco de Mena to Arija. The Hermitage of San Pantaleón de Losa perches upon the rock like a legendary prow; Medina de Pomar showcases the strength of its fortress; Rioseco preserves the allure of a restored ancient monastery; and Ojo Guareña opens the gateway to an underground labyrinth of galleries and silence. The natural bridge at Puentedey and the Ebro reservoir provide a spacious, bright and almost meditative pause. The fourth route combines nature and the Way of St. James along 191 kilometers between the towns of Orbaneja del Castillo and Castrojeriz. A waterfall that runs through the village, the natural viewpoints of the Hoces del Alto Ebro and Rudrón Natural Park, the geological prominence of Peña Amaya, the vibrant culture of Villadiego, the grandeur of Sasamón and the Canal of Castilla as it flows through Melgar de Fernamental come together to create a diverse route, culminating in the spirited Jacobean atmosphere of Castrojeriz.
Ducal paths and silent treasures offer 152 kilometers of courtly elegance, rustic art and unexpected gems. Arcos de la Llana leads to Villangómez, famous for its literary murals; Santa María del Campo reveals its collegiate church from afar; Lerma showcases the stately grandeur of its Ducal Palace, while the Hontoria Quarries take you deep into the white stone that built the Burgos Cathedral. The route From Rome to the Eternal Wine covers 175 kilometers around the Ribera del Duero region, with main stops including Caleruega, Baños de Valdearados, Gumiel de Izán, Pedrosa de Duero, Peñaranda de Duero, La Vid and Clunia Sulpicia. This experience blends Roman mosaics, modern wineries, underground galleries, monasteries and a theater carved into the rock.
