Madrid and Barcelona shine in the 2026 MICE hospitality sector
Spain cements its position in MICE tourism with sixteen hotels featured in the Cvent Top Meeting Hotels Europe 2026, a ranking topped by Meliá Avenida América and showcasing five Spanish properties within the top ten. Madrid and Barcelona present a compelling mix of large convention centers, strategic locations, outdoor venues and hotel options that take the congress, incentive and event experience well beyond conventional meeting rooms. Some hotels serve as simple destinations on the agenda, while others transform the stay into a vital part of the event itself. This is reflected in the versatility of their meeting spaces, the agility of their teams and the opportunity to continue the day in unique spaces with their own character. The Cvent Top Meeting Hotels Europe 2026 firmly positions Spain as a key player: sixteen properties rank among the continent’s top 50, with nine linked to Barcelona and seven located in Madrid. Spain’s presence is even more prominent among the highest positions in the ranking. Five Spanish hotels rank within the top ten: Meliá Avenida América, the European leader; W Barcelona, in third place; Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center, sixth; Grand Hyatt Barcelona, seventh; and NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding, ninth. Additionally, Barcelona ranks second and Madrid third among European meeting destinations, with London at the top of the list. The Meliá Avenida América is strengthening its leadership thanks to a location just ten minutes from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport and a renovated conference center featuring 34 multifunctional, pillar-free rooms flooded with natural light. Completed in 2021, the refurbishment also refreshed over 300 guest rooms, while the Mosaico restaurant and the The Level experience further elevate the hotel’s offerings.
The W Barcelona offers a fresh perspective on events, shaped by its stunning Mediterranean waterfront location. Its 473 rooms are complemented by a spacious 930-square meter main hall, 14 breakout rooms and five outdoor terraces. Direct access to the beach and its exclusive beach club enable receptions and informal gatherings that differ from traditional event spaces. Scale defines the Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center, boasting 54 meeting rooms, an auditorium seating 2,000 and an expansive 3,000 m2 outdoor terrace. The Grand Hyatt Barcelona offers 22 flexible meeting rooms across two floors, while the NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding features 5,000 m2 of renovated event spaces, including 33 naturally lit rooms. Ranking eleventh is the Crowne Plaza & Voco Madrid Centre Retiro complex, featuring 17 meeting rooms along with varied private and outdoor spaces, including a garden and rooftop terrace. This diverse offering expands options for conferences, presentations, receptions and social gatherings connected to the main program. Spain’s representation among the top 50 European hotels is completed by the InterContinental Barcelona, ranked 15th; Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid, 19th; Hilton Barcelona Mar Diagonal, 23rd; Hilton Barcelona, 24th; Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel, 26th; Meliá Castilla, 33rd; Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower, 40th; Hotel Arts Barcelona, 41st; Sofitel Barcelona Skipper, 46th; and Hotel Riu Plaza España, which closes the ranking in 50th place. This ranking was compiled based on data from January to December 2025 gathered on Cvent platforms, considering variables such as proposal requests, room nights booked, market share, responsiveness and bid success rate.
