The Tourism Office of Spain in India, in collaboration with the Department of Spanish of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, organized an event dedicated to language tourism in Colombo on 17th December 2025. The activity brought together students and professors of Spanish with a shared interest in the language and in discovering opportunities to learn Spanish in Spain through immersive academic experiences. Held at the University of Kelaniya campus, the event combined information and interaction through a presentation on studying Spanish in Spain, with a special focus on short-term language immersion programmes during vacations. Participants received practical guidance on courses, destinations, accommodation options, and cultural life in Spain. The session continued with interactive games and quizzes related to Spanish culture and destinations, followed by a networking lunch featuring Spanish-style tapas, creating an informal setting for students and professors to practice Spanish and exchange ideas. The initiative was very well received, with participants highlighting the usefulness of the information provided and expressing strong interest in Spain’s art, culture, and language. The event successfully strengthened students’ motivation to pursue academic and cultural travel to Spain. This activity forms part of the Tourism Office of Spain in India’s broader strategy to promote Turismo Idiomático in South Asia. In 2026, the office will continue these efforts through its participation in key initiatives such as the Jornadas Inversas de Lengua – Andalucía and the V Semana del Español, organized by FEDELE, where the Tourism Office of Spain will sponsor the participation of Spanish language professors from the region.
