Spain Celebrates Gaudí at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026

The Tourism Office of Spain in India (Turespaña), in collaboration with the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, once again brought a vibrant expression of Spanish culture to Mumbai. As part of the Spain–India Dual Year celebrations and in the lead-up to the Year of Gaudí in 2026 — marking the 100th anniversary of the architect’s death — this year’s participation paid tribute to one of Spain’s most universal creative figures: Antoni Gaudí. On 8 February, two fully booked workshops invited children and adults to explore Spain’s rich architectural heritage through hands-on artistic experiences inspired by Gaudí’s unmistakable style.

T-shirt Painting Workshop

In the morning session, young people took part in an experiential workshop that combined storytelling and design. Participants explored Gaudí’s architectural vision — where art, nature and structure merge — before translating his distinctive elements into wearable art. Plain T-shirts became personal tributes to the Catalan architect, turning architecture into a form of creative self-expression.

Children’s Watercolour Workshop

Held in the afternoon session, this interactive workshop introduced young participants to the imaginative world of Antoni Gaudí. After discovering the story behind Spain’s iconic architecture and learning about Gaudí’s organic forms and vibrant colours, children created their own watercolour artworks inspired by his unique aesthetic. Blank canvases were transformed into colourful compositions, offering participants a creative way to connect with Spain’s artistic legacy.

Both workshops not only celebrated the forthcoming Year of Gaudí 2026 but also highlighted that Gaudí’s masterpieces can only be found in Spain — primarily in Barcelona and Catalonia — encouraging Indian travellers to discover these iconic sites firsthand. Through its continued presence at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, the Tourism Office of Spain in India reaffirms its commitment to strengthening cultural ties between Spain and India, demonstrating once again that art serves as a universal language that connects people beyond borders.
