Wine tourism and cultural heritage come together in Zaragoza, 2025 World Capital of Garnacha
Zaragoza has no shortage of themed getaways with everything from scenic wine routes, exclusive tastings, to one-of-a-kind cultural experiences
In 2025, Zaragoza will foster a captivating tourism offer that blends its rich wine heritage with cultural, gastronomic, and leisure experiences. As 2025 World Capital of Garnacha, the city and its enthralling surroundings are even more appealing and accessible than ever, with curated routes, urban wine tastings, not to mention an innovative vineyard in the heart of the historic center. This prestigious title has inspired a proposal with everything from weekend getaways, wine tastings, gastronomic experiences, and cultural routes, all with wine as the common thread running through them. Through this initiative, the city strives to attract visitors who appreciate authentic local experiences, not to mention how easy it is to travel to its rural surroundings. The province has 18,000 hectares of vineyards, with three Designations of Origin: Campo de Borja, Calatayud, and Cariñena form the backbone of a monthly getaway program that sets off from the capital, including public transportation, trips to prestigious wineries, mouth-watering local cuisine, and complementary activities such as pottery workshops and archaeological-themed tours, to name but a few.

One of the most innovative things about this strategy is the “Garnacha Garden,” an 820 m2 vineyard planted with emblematic vines from the three D.O.s, located in Macanaz Park, along the Ebro River, seamlessly blending viticultural heritage with the urban landscape. Beyond wine, Zaragoza offers a gateway to the city’s rich cultural heritage, with visits to museums, Goya’s legacy, Mudejar architecture, and a buzzing gastronomic scene. From savoring tapas in El Tubo to sipping on signature cocktails in fancy bars, the capital of Aragón has boosted its appeal as a dynamic destination for travelers looking for the perfect balance between gastronomy and culture.
