Three charming Spanish villages perfect for familiy trips

Spanish destinations designed to create shared experiences for adults and children alike

The demand for multigenerational experiences and trips is growing, and Spain boasts a variety of destinations that perfectly blend heritage, nature and family-friendly activities. This time, the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain recommends Albarracín, Peñíscola, and Lastres. These three towns are renowned for their historic charm, children's activities and natural attractions tailored to families. Albarracín (Teruel, Aragon). This medieval village nestled in the mountains enchants visitors with its well-preserved historic centre and charming cobblestone streets. For younger visitors, Albarracín has a Toy Museum, a private collection showcasing toys dating back to the late 19th century, including miniature kitchens, trains, building sets, lead soldiers and school supplies. Additionally, the mountain trails are dotted with enchanting legends — such as the tales of the greedy dragon and the forest werewolves — designed to spark the imagination of young adventurers. Peñíscola (Region of Valencia). This walled city boasts breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, offering a delightful blend of sun, sea and rich cultural experiences. The Templar Castle invites visitors to explore the history of the controversial Pope Benedict XIII, who spent his final years within its walls. Families can enjoy the tourist train that winds along the promenade, and visit Playa Norte or Playa Sur beaches, where kayaking courses are available for both adults and children. They will also discover unique natural sites such as the Bufador, a rocky cavern that produces mysterious sounds from the sea’s pressure.

Lastres (Asturias). This charming traditional fishing village on the Asturian coast offers family-friendly activities both on land and at sea. Its narrow streets and balconies lead down to the harbor, where visitors can set off on leisure boat trips across the Cantabrian Sea. The Jurassic Museum of Asturias offers educational experiences featuring fossils, life-sized dinosaur replicas and family workshops. From Lastres, you can explore the renowned Dinosaur Coast, a stretch between Gijón and Ribadesella that features nine accessible sites with fossilized footprints and bone remains — a thrilling adventure for children!
