Spain is expanding its offer of luxury hotels with regional identity
Spain is strengthening its positioning in the luxury hotel sector with a new wave of openings that combine sophistication, comfort, heritage, cosmopolitan design, wellness, and destination-related activities. Barcelona, Valencia, Haro, Mallorca, and Ibiza have five-star projects that seek to reinterpret historic buildings, recover seaside locations, promote signature gastronomy, and expand the most aspirational accommodation offerings with proposals designed for memorable stays. In Barcelona (Catalonia), the Palladium Hotel Group opened BLESS Hotel Barcelona in summer, the first BLESS Collection Hotels establishment in the city. The hotel is located in the Eixample district, featuring 119 rooms and suites, an avant-garde design, personalized services, and technological devices. Its offer includes a main restaurant, wine bar, pastry shop, BLESSed Breakfast, FitNic Power GYM, wellness spaces and a rooftop with a pool and views of Cataluña Square. Some suites will include jacuzzis, enhancing the experiential nature of the accommodation. Valencia (Region of Valencia) is welcoming The Bank Hotel 5* GL, by MYR Hotels, in the second half of the year, located in the former Banco de Valencia data center. This project is transforming a brutalist architectural building into a luxury hotel that will preserve part of its original structure, including old armored doors. The establishment will have 102 rooms, including the Grand Heritage, an 88 m2 suite with a lounge, living area, and conference table. The central atrium will feature a natural vertical garden over 20 meters tall, while the offering will be completed with two restaurants: one focusing on the produce and fire, and another inspired by Asian cuisine, signature cocktails, and a rooftop with a pool, relaxation areas, and greenery. In Haro (La Rioja), Majestic Hotel has inaugurated the Hotel Palacio de los Ángeles, a 5-star boutique hotel set in an 18th-century Baroque palace. This establishment combines heritage restoration, discreet luxury, and wine tourism in the wine capital of Rioja. The hotel has 38 rooms and 10 independent residences. Among its distinctive spaces are El Calado, carved in stone and linked to wine storage; The Palace Library, located beneath an original skylight; a garden terrace with heated pool; a wellness area with indoor jacuzzi and sensory showers; and a culinary proposal led by Carlos and Ignacio Echapresto, expressed in the Ventilla Restaurant and the wine bar.

The Balearic Islands are home to other outstanding hotel projects. Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, in Mallorca, opened its doors in June in Calvià, near Puerto Portals, following the transformation of the historic Punta Negra Hotel into a 5-star GL resort by the sea, with direct access to two beaches, a garden, suites, villas, and a gastronomic offering that includes Matsuhisa, Leña by Dani García, Jacinta, Leppoc, Sobretaula and Thalos. Also in Mallorca, Annua Signature opened the Gran Hotel Margalida in Banyalbufar, in the Tramontana mountain range, with 29 sea-view rooms, an infinity pool, spa, hydrotherapy circuit, movement studio, restaurant led by Joan Escalas Rosselló, Oyster & Raw, pool bar, and experiences such as tastings, visits to producers, and boat trips. In Ibiza, Mongibello is the first 5-star hotel by the Concept Hotel Group. With 168 rooms, 32 suites, private beach access, Lola’s secret room, a traditional fishing llaüt available by reservation, cocktail bars, and the Signature Restaurant, the hotel strengthens a project inspired by the Amalfi coast and the side of Ibiza most closely connected to the Mediterranean lifestyle.
