Madrid, a model of sustainability and innovation in MICE tourism

The capital city promotes events with a positive impact on the local economy

Spain is positioned as one of the world's leading destinations for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) tourism. Its infrastructure, connectivity and cultural diversity make it the third preferred country for international congresses, according to data from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Within this framework, Madrid not only stands out as an administrative capital, but also as a model of sustainability and innovation for the MICE sector, setting the standard in the integration of responsible practices in the industry. At the national level, MICE tourism has shown remarkable growth. In 2023, Spain recorded more than 10.3 million meeting travelers (final data for 2024 is not yet available), with an average spend of €351.9 per person, tripling the average spend of leisure tourism. This segment not only generates significant revenues, but also drives economic development in less exploited regions, promoting authentic experiences.

Diversification and sustainability in the Community of Madrid

Madrid is also committed to territorial diversification as a strategy to balance the economic impact of MICE tourism throughout the region. This approach seeks to decongest the capital, reorder tourist flows and promote alternative locations that offer unique experiences. One example is the CicloLodge hotel, located in the Sierra de Guadarrama. This space combines work and nature, offering modern facilities and teambuilding activities designed to foster collaboration in a calm and creative environment. From cycling routes to wellness areas, CicloLodge demonstrates how natural environments can be strategic allies for the MICE sector. Another outstanding example is El Faro CGS, located in Boadilla del Monte. This multifunctional space, just 15 minutes from the center of Madrid, offers more than 500 square meters equipped with advanced technology. Its outdoor terrace, known as "El Pantalán", adds a differentiating value for events seeking an exclusive touch in the middle of nature.
