Hotels in holiday destinations are driving the growth of Spain’s MICE sector
MICE tourism can avail of new venues in holiday hotels that have been perfectly adapted for the purpose
Spain’s holiday hotels have evolved from being leisure-only destinations to become strategic MICE tourism hubs, offering bespoke services and spaces for corporate meetings and events, not to mention co-working areas to attract remote workers. A generational shift within companies and organizations has played a key part in this transformation. In a landscape in which business travel strives to blend productivity with enriching experiences, destinations such as Ibiza, Tenerife, Lloret de Mar, and Valencia are strengthening their appeal with robust infrastructure and hotel chains that have tailored their proposals with programs that strike the perfect balance between business and pleasure.. Ibiza has around 80,000 hotel beds and is currently expanding its Santa Eulalia Conference Center, a development that will undoubtedly boost its MICE tourism offer. Efforts to diversify and draw out the tourist season have inspired unique proposals such as Agroturismo Can Lluc, a hotel that blends rural luxury with state-of-the-art technology and wellness facilities, in an environment that is conducive to business and pleasure alike.

Tenerife, with over 60,000 beds in 4- and 5-star hotels, not to mention direct flights to nearly 150 destinations, is the Canary Islands’ best-connected island. Furthermore, it has five conference centers and no shortage of natural venues that are perfect for outdoor meetings. On the other hand, Valencia has even more accommodation options than ever, with everything from luxury hotels to more affordable options. The province, including destinations such as Gandía, Cullera and Oliva has more than 50,000 beds. Improved air connectivity and an extensive network of event venues make it even more appealing as a prime location for conferences and meetings. Lloret de Mar has over 29,000 hotel beds, with many of its 120 hotels catering to the corporate sector. The Meliá Lloret de Mar 5* hotel is the perfect example of this, offering a host of adaptable event spaces, with 11 meeting rooms and over 50,000 m2 of gardens.
