Airlines reinforce frequencies and launch key routes to Spain in 2026
The global air map is expanding with more flights, new destinations, and more efficient aircraft
In 2026, Spain's international air connectivity is being strengthened thanks to the incorporation of new direct routes, more flights, and state-of-the-art aircraft. America, Europe, and the Middle East are intensifying their connections with proposals aimed at the global traveler, facilitating more efficient and non-stop travel, and expanding access to urban, cultural, and vacation destinations. America Latin America has been the protagonist of one of the year's first additions. From March 28, Aeromexico is operating a new route between Mexico City and Barcelona, with six weekly flights. A day later, on March 29, Iberia is adding a third daily flight between the capital and the New York area, with a daily flight to Newark (New Jersey) that will join the two existing flights to John F. Kennedy Airport, thereby surpassing 350,000 seats during the summer season. From April 16, 2026, JetBlue is strengthening its presence in Spain with a daily flight between Barcelona and Boston Logan Airport. It is the company's second route in the country, after the connection with Madrid was inaugurated in May 2025, which will resume during the summer season. Meanwhile, United will expand its network in Spain on May 22 with the opening of a direct route between Newark and Santiago de Compostela, featuring three weekly flights. Thanks to this addition, the airline will reach six destinations in the country, including Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Bilbao. Later, on June 17, 2026, Canada will join the Mediterranean map when Air Canada launches a seasonal route between Montreal and Palma de Mallorca, which will operate until October 24. With four weekly flights, it will be the first direct connection between these two destinations. In Latin America, Iberia will also reinforce its presence in Mexico with the new Madrid–Monterrey flight starting June 2, 2026, operating three times weekly.

Europe At the European level, Norwegian has been among the first airlines to launch new routes. From Gran Canaria Airport, it has launched direct connections to Bergen starting March 20 and to Stavanger from April 17. Between May and October 2026, Finnair plans to connect the cities of Valencia and Helsinki for the first time, with two weekly flights. Meanwhile, Volotea will open the Valencia–Florence route in September 2026, with two weekly flights, expanding connectivity between the Mediterranean and central Italy. From Eastern Europe, Polish carrier LOT Polish Airlines will introduce a direct connection between Warsaw and Palma de Mallorca during the summer of 2026, thereby strengthening access to the Balearic market from Central Europe. Middle East Etihad Airways will operate a seasonal route between Palma de Mallorca and Abu Dhabi from June 12 to mid-September 2026, with three weekly flights. This connection will link up the Balearic Islands to the airline’s long-haul network to the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania.
