On the occasion of the new air route between Istanbul (SAW) and Seville (SVQ), Turespaña, in collaboration with the Seville City Council, Turismo de Sevilla (Sevilla City Office), and Sevilla Congress and Convention Bureau, has presented the tourism offer of the Andalusian capital to the tourism sector of the Turkish market based in Istanbul. Led by the Mayor of Seville, heading the Sevillian delegation, proposals promoting “Seville as a MICE Destination” and “Seville, City of Opera” were showcased to position the city as a leading destination for cultural and luxury tourism. These presentations, addressed to a substantial group of Turkish tour operators and travel agents, aim to strategically position the Andalusian capital in a highly attractive market, leveraging the direct daily connection between Istanbul and Seville starting March 30.

“Turkey is a dynamic market with extraordinary potential. In 2024, tourists residing in Turkey demonstrated outstanding indicators, including a high expenditure per trip (€1,838) and the highest average daily spending (€327) in the Euro-Asian region,” emphasized Gonzalo Ceballos, Tourism Counselor at the Embassy of Spain. He also recalled that “Spain received over one million passengers on direct flights from Turkey (Aena) and, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (Frontur), welcomed more than 600,000 Turkish resident tourists last year.”

The program of activities held in Istanbul on February 25 and 26 included a workshop featuring companies affiliated with the Sevilla Congress and Convention Bureau (SCCB) and Turkish buyers, following the presentation of Seville’s outstanding MICE destination proposal by Manuel Macías, Managing Director of the entity. The agenda also featured the presentation of the “Seville, City of Opera” project, highlighted by a performance from soprano Soraya Méndez, winner of the 2024 Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla Award. She delivered a special interpretation accompanied on piano by maestro Francisco Soriano, showcasing not only Sevillian musical talent but also the unique position of the Andalusian capital. As stated by Mayor José Luis Sanz, “Seville is the city that has inspired the most operas in history. Over 150 works have found their ideal setting in our streets and monuments. Today we present a project that values this legacy and transforms it into a great cultural and tourist experience.” Seville is preparing the inaugural edition of the Sevilla, City of Opera Festival (September–October 2025), commemorating milestones such as the 150th anniversary of Bizet’s Carmen and the 250th anniversary of Manuel García’s birth.

Air connections provided by Vueling (BCN); Air Europa (MAD); Turkish Airlines (AGP, BCN, BIO, MAD, VLC); and Pegasus Airlines (SVQ) offer promising prospects for 2025. In 2025, Turespaña will continue to develop promotional activities targeting the Turkish market, with a particular focus on language tourism during May at the University of Izmir, and Direct Tourism Days in December in Istanbul.
