THE OET OF ROME PRESENTS THE NEW ATHENS-ALICANTE ROUTE

The Spanish Tourist Office in Rome, responsible for the Greek market, together with the Provincial Tourist Board of Alicante, hosted a presentation event at the residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Athens. The occasion marked the recent launch of the new direct Easyjet route between Athens and Alicante, which since its opening this summer has already welcomed more than 11,000 passengers. The initiative aims to promote the appeal of Alicante–Costa Blanca to Greek travelers, positioning Spain as a premium destination for a market that is steadily recovering and showing positive trends both in visitor numbers and average spending.

Over 70 journalists and media professionals attended, representing leading outlets such as Naftemporiki, Ethnos.gr, Fortune Greece, Greek Travel Pages and TravelDailyNews, alongside national and specialized platforms. Key players in the Greek travel ecosystem also took part, including Visit Greece, the Hellenic Association of Travel Agents (HATTA), the Confederation SETE and its research institute INSETE, the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), and Athens International Airport. Leading Greek tour operators with programming to Spain, including Mazi Travel, Ask2Travel, Iberica Travel, and Kyklos, were also in attendance.

Gonzalo Ceballos, Director of the Spanish Tourist Office in Rome, highlighted the strong potential of the Greek outbound market, pointing out that “its high purchasing power and preference for quality travel experiences align very well with Spain’s offer.” Meanwhile, José Francisco Mancebo, Director of the Provincial Tourist Board of Alicante, emphasized that the new route “strengthens ties between Mediterranean destinations, opening new opportunities for collaboration” and confirmed that Alicante considers the Greek market a strategic pillar for future growth, with the possibility of reinforcing and expanding this connection in 2026.
