ATHENS HOSTS 2025 TEACHING CONFERENCE ON SPANISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION

The Cervantes Institute of Athens, the Embassy of Spain in Greece with its Education and Tourism Departments, the Regional Government of Castilla y León, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Open University, the Hispano-Hellenic Union for Language and Culture, the Association of Spanish Teachers and Hispanists in Greece (ASPE), and the Panhellenic Association of Spanish Language Teachers P-40 recently organized the 2025 Teaching Conference for Spanish language instructors. The event was held last Saturday, September 20, at the University of West Attica.

This year’s edition dedicated a session to exploring the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence in language education, providing teachers with an opportunity to reflect on innovative pedagogical approaches, share experiences, and strengthen expertise in Spanish language teaching and learning. The conference also featured an address by Counselor Gonzalo Ceballos, who presented Turespaña’s initiatives in the field of language-oriented tourism. Aimed at both specialized travel agents and educators, this program underscores the significance of Spanish as the fourth most spoken language worldwide, with over 600 million speakers, official status in 22 countries, and increasing prominence in global communication and business.

The initiative sought to highlight not only the importance of learning Spanish but also the practical experience of using the language through Spain’s wide-ranging language tourism offerings, which represent a key element of the country’s cultural and educational outreach.
