– The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña), an autonomous body attached to the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, is organizing a series of professional and promotional activities from February 18 to 22 through its Tourism Office in Los Angeles, on the occasion of the visit to California by a Catalan delegation comprising representatives from the tourism and business sectors.

The aim of this mission is to strengthen Catalonia’s positioning as a tourist destination in the U.S. market, with a particular focus on the West Coast, and to consolidate strategic relationships with key intermediaries and opinion leaders.

The program, jointly designed by Turespaña and the Catalan Tourist Board, includes several initiatives aimed at the professional sector. Highlights include a dinner with travel agents in Costa Mesa (Orange County), as well as a meeting with media representatives and content creators on Thursday, February 19. The latter will consist of a presentation-luncheon featuring a tasting of Catalan cuisine, followed by a brief concert by the Orfeó Català at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, a building designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo. A second professional dinner with travel agents will also take place that same day in the city of Los Angeles.

Overall, the planned activities will directly engage nearly 75 tourism and communications professionals, enhancing awareness of the destination and generating opportunities for commercial collaboration.

The initiative also includes the participation of the airline Level, which operates direct flights between Barcelona and two key California cities—Los Angeles and San Francisco—thereby strengthening air connectivity and facilitating increased tourism flows from the West Coast to Catalonia.

The professional agenda will run in parallel with a prominent cultural program designed to further enhance the destination’s visibility. The Orfeó Català will perform four concerts alongside the LA Phil, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on February 19, 20, 21, and 22, featuring Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. This high-level cultural context serves as an additional platform for international outreach and reinforces Catalonia’s positioning as a leading cultural destination.

Through this initiative, Turespaña reaffirms its commitment to the strategic promotion of Spanish destinations in priority markets, advancing integrated actions that combine public-private collaboration, professional promotion, air connectivity, and cultural visibility to strengthen Spain’s international tourism competitiveness.
