Madrid, June 3, 2025. The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña), an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, is actively participating in WORLDPride 2025, which is being held in Washington, D.C., from May 17 to June 8, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of this international event.
With its participation, Turespaña reaffirms its commitment to promoting Spain as an inclusive and diverse tourist destination, reinforcing the country's position as a benchmark in LGBTQ+ tourism for the North American market.
Official presentation of Barcelona as a candidate for WorldPride 2030
To strengthen Spain's visibility as a leading destination for LGBTQ+ tourism, Turespaña is organizing and promoting the official presentation of Barcelona as a candidate city to host WorldPride 2030, which will take place on June 4 at the Cultural Center of the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C. The event will feature the participation of institutional representatives such as Ángeles Moreno, Spanish Ambassador to the United States; Miguel Sanz, Director General of Turespaña; Alberto Lacasta, Director General of LGBTQ+ Policies for the Government of Catalonia; Javier Rodríguez, Commissioner for LGBTQ+ Policies for the City of Barcelona; and members of Pride Barcelona.
Barcelona's bid reaffirms its recognition as a global capital of diversity, highlighting its commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, its vibrant cultural life, and its history of activism and visibility. If selected, it would be the second time that Spain has hosted WORLDPride, following the 2017 edition in Madrid.
Prominent presence at Pride Village and official parade
Turespaña will have a prominent presence at WorldPride Washington D.C. 2025, both at the Pride Village (Street Festival), which will be held on June 7 and 8, and at the official parade on Saturday, June 7, one of the festival's most popular events, with an expected attendance of over one million people.
At Pride Village, Turespaña will have its own stand where, in addition to supporting Barcelona's bid, it will promote the 2026 Gay Games, which will take place in Valencia from June 27 to July 4. These games, which promote participation, inclusion, and personal achievement in 38 sports disciplines and cultural activities, represent a key opportunity to consolidate Spain's image as a leading international destination for LGBTQ+ tourism in the US market.
During the parade, Turespaña will join the Pride Barcelona themed bus, reinforcing Spain's visibility as an international benchmark for inclusion, LGTBIQ+ rights, and diversity.
Launch of the “Diversity is our heritage” campaign
As part of WORLDPride 2025, Turespaña will present its new tourism promotion campaign aimed at the LGBTQ+ segment in the United States, entitled “Diversity is our heritage.” This initiative seeks to highlight cultural richness, inclusion, and equality as fundamental pillars of Spanish society, promoting destinations that celebrate diversity and social rights.
The campaign will be available from June 4 at https://feelproud.spain.info/, on the YouTube channel (Spain Pride), and on Turespaña's official social media accounts. It is based on market research conducted in 2024 by Turespaña's Los Angeles Tourism Office and MMGY, which reflects the preferences and values of the American LGBTQ+ audience.
