A Way for Everyone: U.S. Journalists Explore the Accessible Way of Saint James
From September 8 to 13, 2026, the Tourist Office of Spain in Los Angeles organized a press trip in collaboration with TUR4all Travel and CaminoXacobeo to promote the accessible Way of Saint James in the U.S. market. Over six days and five nights, the group traveled the Portuguese Way from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela, with the goal of showing that the pilgrimage experience can be enjoyed on equal terms by people with disabilities or accessibility needs.
The trip brought together four journalists and content creators specializing in travel and accessibility, along with two companions. The route was fully adapted, with an accessible van available throughout the journey, accessible accommodations, meals and picnics featuring local products at accessible restaurants, and the support of a specialized tour leader and an assistant. Passing through towns such as Redondela, Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis and Padrón, participants experienced firsthand the quality of the services, facilities and hospitality offered to pilgrims.
The work of the journalists was key to this initiative. Their direct experience on the ground allowed them to discover Spain’s progress in accessible tourism and to share an authentic, personal view of the Way with American audiences. Through their articles, stories and social media posts, they help raise the profile of Spain’s accessible offerings, inspire new travelers to set out on the Way of Saint James, and position the destination as a leader in inclusive tourism.
This initiative reaffirms Turespaña’s commitment to promoting Spain in priority markets as a destination open to everyone. The Way of Saint James, a symbol of connection and personal achievement, stands out as an experience that brings together heritage, nature, gastronomy and accessibility.
