Nueva Delhi, 10 de enero de 2026

2026 marks the beginning of the Spain–India Dual Year, an initiative that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries and aims to strengthen mutual economic and cultural ties, with tourism as one of its key priorities. Firmly believing in the strong connection between reading, culture and tourism, the Tourism Office of Spain in India has chosen to take part in the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026 where Spain is the Focus Country. With an estimated 2 million visitors expected between 10 and 18 January, the Office aims to bring Spanish destinations closer to book lovers and culture enthusiasts, highlighting Spain as a diverse, cultural, and inspiring travel destination. Providing information about the celebration of the Gaudí Year or the upcoming solar eclipses visible from Spain, highlighting lesser-known destinations, attracting women travelers and nature lovers, and promoting language tourism are some areas on which the Spanish Tourism Office in India will focus its activities the current year. Some promotional slogans selected for display at the Spain stand, aligned with these focus areas, include: “Unknown Spain: Your Next Chapter,” “Women Travelers in Spain: A Passport to Yourself,” and “Study Spanish in Spain.” The link between travel and culture was also emphasized through a quote by Cervantes from Don Quixote, displayed on the Turespaña panel in Spanish, English, and Hindi: “He who reads a lot and travels a lot sees a lot and knows a lot.” On the opening day, the event was visited by Spain’s Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, together with a Spanish delegation of authors and publishers, the Deputy Head of Mission, Francisco Capote Yeregui, and the Director of the Cervantes Institute in Delhi, María Gil. On the third day of the fair, the Office representant had the pleasure of welcoming the honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu, who visited the Spain stand. During the visit, the Governor was briefed on the Spain-India Dual Year 2026, as well as on Spanish-language courses and Spain as a tourism destination.
